1. Kayne, your fans are so proud of your accomplishment with Tara Conner at the Miss Universe pageant, she looked fabulous! Is this like the Super Bowl for pageant gown designers?
Yes definitely... pageant designers from all over would die to have their gown on the Miss Universe stage because of the worldwide exposure.
2. Describe the scene backstage at Miss Universe. (assuming you were there)
I actually did not go to the pageant because we had a huge watch party for all of our pageant girls at the house. We cooked out and had a wonderful time. I wouldn't have been allowed to go backstage anyway, so Warren and I thought it would be a great idea to host a little party and relax.
Was there any question whether or not Tara was going to wear your evening gown design?
I actually called Tara two hours before the pageant started expecting to get her voicemail. I was suprised when she answered on the second ring. I just wanted to wish her the best and tell her that it had been such a pleasure to work with her. The thought crossed my mind, but I wasn't really worried about it. I knew from our fittings and talking to her that she loved the gown and obviously it served her well.
4. What type of alterations did you have to make on the dress before sending her out?
I took up the side seams and the lace neck piece. I also had to hem the dress several inches and moved the zipper from the side seam to the center back. That's really it.
5. Who was more nervous, you or Tara?
Well, you'd have to ask her also, but I would have to say I wasn't nervous... I was just so excited I almost peed my pants...
