Justin Couture's PR Recap - Episode 1 Continued

Uli, Bonnie and Katy move in. Katy is concerned about her light sleeping and the other women snoring and already I'm worried for her in the big city. She looks really rumpled and adorable and I want to run to Sharper Image to buy her a clothing steamer and a sound machine to introduce her to modern conveniences.

The designers find a note on their memo boards. Robert reads his to his roommates and tells them they have all been voted off then quickly he assures them he is kidding. I'm liking how quickly he thinks; he would have come up with the puppy eating comment to Laura for sure! They all have to go up to the roof of the Atlas for a party and they appropriately are thrilled and nervous.

On the roof they are introduced to Heidi and Tim. Heidi distastefully pops a bottle of the might-as-well-not-be-a-sponsor champagne and we avoid seeing her drink. The designers toast and then they get their challenge. They are to spend 15 minutes foraging for materials from which to fashion a dress. They get little black Project Runway tool kits that contain scissors, pliers and a laundry bag. Immediately I want one of those tool kits. They rush downstairs and Malan is disturbed, excuse me "irritated," by their behavior. I feel like pointing out that his Madonna'ed accent is irritating but that would be stating the obvious in the same way Bravo pointed out the wacky hand buzzer.

We see them destroying their rooms. Keith goes all obvious and rips down the curtains. Stacey does the same in her room and also goes for the shower curtain. Laura tells us that she was drawn to fur and sparkles when she took the rug and a chandelier. Angela goes for all sorts of fake plants in spite of Malan's Feng Shui foreshadowing. She also grabs pots from the kitchen(!) and the leather/pleather from the chaise. We see Kayne surgically removing the vinyl from the bar stools while Bradley takes a large comforter as well as Robert's prized pillow! brought! from! home! Bradley seems to think he can keep it. Malan continues to be irritated but this time he bemoans the poor quality of the fabrics he harvested since everything was cryptically Ikea. As they leave the Atlas with their booty, Laura observes that Angela appears coming from a garage sale. Angela laughs nervously because she was obviously planning on selling the bulk of the stuff she grabbed.

In the workroom Tim tells them that they have to be finished by 1:00 a.m. and they all look crazed. Only Stacey seems to be having troubles with her sewing machine and we learn that she decides to do hand stitching as a solution. I see time management issues in her near future. Bradley tears up his comforter and sends feathers everywhere annoying the maximum number of designers on purpose. Vincent has wacky pockets and an equally wacky hat made out of an Ikea basket tricked out with dangling chains. Jeffrey has a Santino effect going on.

Tim is concerned with Stacey and remains quiet. People, if Tim is looking at your stuff and says nothing, you're going home if you don't change things pronto! Tim looks at LoLaw/Keith's boring navy percale dress and tells him to innovate. It really looks like Keith wants to tell Tim to shut up as he pretends to add stuff on the dress to pretend to innovate.

When the designers get back to the Atlas after 1:00 in the morning they are horrified to learn that no one cleaned up after they pillaged the apartment. They are all pissed that they are sleeping in squalor that night. Maybe the producers wanted the designers to use new sponsor Orbitz to find hotel rooms.

In the morning Jeffrey menacingly tells us he can't wait to meet his model and I worry for her future. When Keith gets to Parsons he immediately removes all of the stuff he added as per Tim and once again he has a dress made out of a dark sheet. Malan seems drawn to Laura's coat and they momentarily bond while they sigh about glamour. Kayne, who keeps changing the skirt of his dress, loves Michael's frock made out of coffee filters. He tells Michael that it is soft and smells like Febreze and you know that he considers this a compliment. I want to hug him because of referencing something not sponsored.

Models come in and Tim Gunn tells them to, "use the Macy's accessory wall as well as you can" which sounds like he is really insulted by having to utter that phrase. Bonnie needs double-sided tape because she obviously designed the bosom of her dress to fit Serena Williams rather than her size -6 model. Stacey learns her dress is too sheer and feels she solves it with hastily-stitched, sheer biker shorts. Vincent enthuses about his 'kooky hat' and the 'crazy sunglasses' and everyone knows he's daft. There is ubiquitous model frenzy prior to the runway.

Heidi comes out in a black dominatrix outfit but forgets her cat-o-nine tails in favor of something from the Macy's accessory wall. She tells them the stuff that is all sponsored and then she introduces MK, NINAGARCIA and Kate Spade. Then the runway show starts.

Laura's coat looks really wearable and while she smiles adoringly we hear that it is like her entire body is smiling, proving that she is no Pepper. Bradley's comforter coat gives the impression that his model was sleeping nude when the doorbell rang. Maybe that was what he was going for. Keith's dress is essentially a navy sheet, albeit a well-fitted navy sheet, with red buttons in the back. Angela gives us the first whickety-whack of the new season and some fake plants. Perhaps she was trying to give Malan a seizure so I think she was really smart. Kayne's dress is very dramatic from behind but not in a crazy way. Surprisingly I like Malan's tweedy jacket and we hear from him that he is shaking, probably an after-affect of the fake plants. Bonnie's bodice stands about 9 inches away from her model's buried treasure. Katy's nice jacket is over a we've-seen-this-before plastic dress. Michael's coffee filter dress looks fluttery and amazing but I find myself wanting to sniff it for either Febreze or Royal Kona. Vincent's model looks deranged and he tells us that he is grooving on it. I say groove on, wacky guy. Alison's frock has an unfortunate pouch effect near the groin on an otherwise cute dress. Stacey's gown is not bad but the obvious huge panties killed whatever she was attempting. Robert's dress was just cute from the front but the rear view was the payoff with endearing red ribbon bows that managed somehow to not look precious. Believe me, that is hard to achieve. Uli has some trim that doesn't look whickety-whack. Jeffrey's model throws some feathers and receives a disapproving look from NINAGARCIA. The dress looks like a mess and suddenly we all realize that this guy is Santino without the benefit of ample spray adhesive.

Alison, Bradley, Angela, Kayne, Malan, Bonnie, Katy, Michael and Uli all get asked to step forward and they are still in. Wait, why was Michael in that group? Maybe they couldn't smell the delicious dress! Then the models come in and Stacey gives her model a sweet kiss. Suddenly I feel sad for her bad panties. MK says Laura's dress is chic and noisy but that is good. Heidi wants to see Vincent's dress without the hat and MK says you wonder how many drinks she had while Heidi chants 'a less is more' mantra. They like Keith who talks nonsense about Gone With the Wind and Carol Burnett and I realize that MK has a Jude Law fetish. NINAGARCIA loves the red buttons and then I think that Keith knows hypnosis. This is a man who willfully disobeyed Tim freaking Gunn! They call Stacey's dress naughty but for some reason this is bad. They mention a combination of granny panties, pillow bosom and time management so it looks grim for Stacey. Robert talks about Maria from West Side Story and for some reason I'm really charmed. He knows hypnosis, too. They heap hate on Jeffrey's layers and we know he's Santino lite - a third less talented than Santino.

The judges deliberate. Laura is in. They declare LoLaw/Keith the winner and I go to Amazon to buy a book on hypnosis. Robert is in and, strangely, so is Vincent. They tell Stacey that while her dress is a mess, that Jeffrey's dress is slightly better. Stacey goes home to start another dot.com. We see a potpourri of previews because the producers are probably still editing.
