In the workroom TiaraTara tells the designers that she is really short while flashing her blinding teeth. She wants a dress that's monochromatic earthcolors, avoiding white and cleavage ... in other words she thinks she wants a plain, brown dress.
Tim Gunn tells them that they will be working in teams of two and will have 30 minutes to sketch a concept to pitch to TiaraTara. All of the designers, except Angela, take the time to draw something fabulous. Angela spends her time campaigning for Kayne to work with her. It goes along the lines of, "Kayne, you design pageant dresses which means you're going to lose this. I'm going to mix you up so that you won't look at the camera and say that you will win. And you know that is the worst thing you can do. I will prevent you from thinking that." Remarkably Kayne seems able to ignore her.
It goes well until Jude Lawless/Keith cops a feel on TiaraTara. She looks very uncomfortable while he talks about her legs. I want her to show me on the doll where the bad man touched her. Kayne tells her that she is freaking gorgeous. Then Angela tells Tiaratara that she doesn't draw but will talk to her. She asks TiaraTara if she likes an 'umpire waist' which I guess means a black and white vertical stripped bodice. Then she asks TiaraTara if she likes gloves and I'm imagining baseball mitts.
TiaraTara picks Lawless, Uli, Vincent, Laura, Malan, Jeffrey and then, sadistically last, she picks Kayne because he's a pageant freak. I'm a little worried for him that he will have his moment with the camera saying he will win but he avoids it. Using the black button bag, the leaders select teams. Laura picks Michael, Kayne picks Robert (uh-oh, could their fabulousity cancel each other out?) Jeffrey picks little hottie Alison. Hey Jeffrey, don't you have a girlfriend and a kid at home? Malan picks Katherine, Uli picks Bonnie, Keith picks Bradley mostly to avoid picking Angela. Vincent is only left with Angela but elects to refer to her as Allyson which I assume is one of Angela's many personalities. Maybe Allyson is to Angela the way that Zulema is to Shetangi.
So they have $300 and 45 minutes to spend at Mood. We discover that Malan is not irritated because he can happily buy better quality materials. Kayne picks this irridescent organza that Jeffrey calls sherbet-colored and wrong. Angela/Allyson starts acting like a timer and announcing to Vincent how much time is left. Maybe she's worried that without the distraction he'll want to turn baskets into hats. He tells her to stop because he can't hear the voices in his head. Then they cryptically get this non-brown, acid-green fabric.
At Parsons Kayne and Robert start doing comedy routines. Bonnie tells Uli that she wants to see some fighting. As if on cue, we see Angela/Allyson wanting to help Vincent but it is like two sets of multiple personalities are battling.
Angela/Allyson gets all 'whatever' and then goes somewhere to nap or make organic preserves from heirloom peaches or something. Bradley wants to see elegance and it's clear that he is worried being with immune Lawless. Lawless/Keith declares that he is really, really, really good and that his 400-count percale we saw last challenge should have made that really, really clear.
Malan shows Katy that she needs to be organized and she is really happy to be with him since his Chi is all good. Then Malan confesses that no one loved or believed in him. When he was 13 his mother found his drawings and told him he would never amount to anything. Malan's inner, wounded child makes me want to take back what I said last week about the gel and all because I realize I am just like all of the other evil people who didn't see the sweet Malan. Suddenly I am Malan's disapproving mother....or is he just acting? Whatever. If he's acting, he's really good. I approve, Malan! Really!
Then back to the crazy Angela/Allyson v. Vincent show. Vincent wants to get a restraining order or something so that Angela/Allyson can't come within 3 feet of him and the dress form. Angela/Allyson mocks the dress and says she made something like it in college for an ugly girl with bad taste.
Tim checks in and tells tells Angela/Allyson and Vincent that they disappoint him. Angela/Allyson says that suddenly she's a professional designer and that Vincent's dress is all kinds of bad. She doesn't want her names attached to it. Tim looks at Malan's bark-colored dress and says it looks like a giant, heavy log. It's all busily textured and you know they spent alot of time achieving that. Suddenly Tim is Malan's disapproving mother. Whew! Then Lawless and Angela/Allyson have snacks so that their partners can work without them.
We hear some frantic sound bites including the not-really-featured-in-this-episode Laura tell not-really-featured-in-this-episode Michael that they need to remove something because it looks likes she's pooping. Maybe it was a toilet seat. Kayne wants to put 4 million gross (I'm talking quanity, not quality here) rhinestones on his dress so that it has a disco ball effect. Angela/Allyson disavows all responsibility for the dress while Vincent declares that he is happy being the leader and all. Later back at the Atlas Jeffrey declares to Vincent that Angela/Allyson is a 'feminazi' and I'm thinking she has a third, nameless personality that only Jeffrey saw.
The next day at Parsons the designers and their models have 2 hours to prep for the runway show. Katy doesn't want to go home because somehow their dress is like 2 feet too short. Maybe they actually made it the size to fit short Taratiara. Angela/Allyson is wearing a bubble skirt with black-pattern tights and the motorcyle boots. Maybe her outfit is the product of the un-named feminazi character that refuses to shop online for shoes. She starts announcing to Vincent random times that they are to be ready and Vincent becomes confused/angry. I think she feared he would go to the Macy's accessory wall and add a bucket for a hat this week. Tim starts to tell them to, "Hurry! It's time!" while we see Katy cutting the skirt even shorter.
On the runway we see Heidi dressed in something black obviously from Macy's. She introduces Vera Wang standing in for MK, NINAGARCIA and Tiaratara. The runway show starts. Jeffrey pronounces his dress beautifully grotesque and I halfway see what he's saying. Alison says they needed two weeks. Lawless says his dress is exactly what he wanted and I think it looks good, that he surprisingly didn't coast. Bradley is not worried which makes me think he worked like crazy on it. Vincent is happy with his non-brown dress but I suspect he's just happy he doesn't have to work with Angela/Allyson et. al. Angela/Allyson unsurprisingly hates the dress that she didn't design or work on. Kayne and Robert are happy with their confection. Malan makes a noble statement about putting his best foot forward while Katy states how unhappy she is. Uli thinks her dress is clean while Bonnie thinks it's eye-catching. Laura and Michael's dress is strangely white probably because they weren't actually in this episode.
They ask the teams of Kayne/Robert, Malan/Katy, Uli/Bonnie and Vincent/Angela/Allyson to step forward. All of the others are 'in.' Heidi tells them only one will go home. Angela/Allyson rolls her eyes because she knows they aren't in the win/almost win category and NINAGARCIA shoots a disapproving look her way. They like how Uli's dress opens up and Vera Wang approves the color layers. I don't care for Vera Wang's strange bangs that look like someone cut chewing gum out of her hair. TiaraTara likes the 'sweetheart top' and NINAGARCIA likes that they ignored TiaraTara's earthtone request even though TiaraTara thought Kayne listened well. Heidi says that there is something going on with Malan's dress and 'that one is bigger than another' and I think she's talking about the branches on Malan's log dress. They don't like the bark. Then they ask Katy who should go home and Katy says she had nothing to do with the bark idea. Malan gulps and bravely says he should go and I'm really afraid for this noble version of Malan I suddenly love. NINAGARCIA asks Vincent if he and his partners worked well and Vincent says he did it all alone except the bad stuff that Allyson did. Then Angela/Allyson says the dress is bad but Tiaratara says it wasn't except for the sleeves that she termed 'space cadet.' Vincent gets dramatic about how horrible it all was calling it the, 'nightmare of my life' and I want to remind him that he has that lack of 401K in his future.
They leave the runway and NINAGARCIA hates that Vincent and Angela/Allyson couldn't work as a team. Two's company and three's a crowd around a dress form. They like Uli's but not as much as Kayne's. They don't know what happened to Malan's and NINAGARCIA calls it horrible. She's in a really bad mood without MK.
They have the designers come back. Robert and Bonnie are quickly in and before I realize a whole team doesn't get the win, TiaraTara pronounces Kayne the winner. This would have been the perfect time for a big song with all of the models dancing but since only half of the models actually worked this episode it was out of the question. Surprisingly Kayne doesn't faint, get the vapors or anything. Uli and Katy are in. Katy sweetly hugs Malan and I realize that she liked him even though they made a bad dress. Then they tell Vincent he's in. Heidi yells at Malan and Angela/Allyson and tells all three of them that they are horrible. Heidi is now Malan's disapproving mother. Heidi tells Angela/Allyson that she is just barely in and the sweet Angela hugs Malan while the evil Allyson rolls her eyes.
Then we get all of the sad parts. Malan kisses Heidi and you know he forgives her for being so stern. Then we see Malan backstage and he's all ashamed and crying and I realize I'm crying, too, for that wounded child with the sad Chi. Then Malan goes off to become an even greater voice talent and to have thousands of MySpace friends. Click
