Tim looked cool as a cucumber (sorry) as he introduced the Rockettes (renamed the Spritzerettes for the occasion) and described the outfits. The clothing was more Disney’s Small World than Conde Nast’s Haut Monde – leaning on stereotypes but using vibrant color, unexpected touches, and sassy models to keep it fresh.

March’s dresses included: Italian pasta salad (with a colander hat and artichoke accessories); an Asian salad kimono with lettuce wings and vegetable fan; a Parisian Bistro Salad (a bouquet garni skirt covered in haricots verts and asparagus, with a baguette hat); a Tex Mex taco salad (green onion fringe belt and a red pepper sombrero); a Potato salad outfit (complete with potato sack, hard-boiled egg earrings, and a giant parer); a Carmen Miranda-style fruit salad; and a summer salad couple (she in a carrot skirt, he in Bermuda onion shorts). The show also included two dresses inspired by winning recipes in Wish-Bone’s “What’s your Salad style?” contest.

The grand finale dress was a delicious Ambrosia wedding salad. The dress was classic Heatherette, with multicolored fruit, tulle, glitter, tinsel, rhinestones, feathers, and a salad dressing bouquet. It isn’t often that one thinks of Heatherette and good taste at the same time!

After the fashion show, Tim Gunn was his usual gracious self, talking to the audience members and smiling through countless pictures. He spoke enthusiastically about his new job at Liz Claiborne. And his comments about the next season of Project Runway? Since the show has not begun taping, he didn’t have any specific comments other than “These are by far the highest quality designers we’ve ever had.” The producers have not yet decided whether the finalists will participate in the Spring 2008 or Fall 2008 fashion shows in Bryant Park.

Team BPR thanks Nancy T for another excellent field report!
