Oh, and of course there was the fashion show!
What a fashion show! BPR posted video of the clothes, but the video does not do justice to the collection. The Indochine theme was inspired by a photograph of Malan’s ancestors on holiday in Asia. The collection showed less flash than Malan’s earlier designs (and the work of his fashion idols Alexander McQueen, Galliano, and Lagerfeld), but maintained an emphasis on glamour by using luxurious silk organzas and taffetas. Melrose (of ANTM fame) opened the show with a pearl-colored silk/mylar dress that evoked Hollywood and Asian royalty. Both Laura K. and I both loved a ‘raw sugar’ silk crepe sleeveless blouse with a ‘conch’ silk twill bias cut skirt (I relish these ambiguous but savory color names – Malan’s other seasonal ‘colors’ included ginger and salt crystal).

Hints of Malan’s flamboyance appeared in a dress with black ostrich feather top, as well as two dresses that plunged dangerously low in the back.
Congratulations Malan!

From Laura K: One of the best things about traveling to NYC was the opportunity to meet several of our field reporters and many of our readers. Nancy T has covered several events for us already and I know you'll agree that she is a very talented writer and photographer. We are very fortunate to have such great support and friendship within the BPR community. Thanks Nancy!
