The Ultimate Bridesmaid Challenge - Continued

In almost all cases, the women used dresses that they had actually worn as bridesmaids, foisted upon them by their relatives and so-called friends. There were some common denominators – ugly colors, fabrics that looked “highly flammable," poor fit, and themes. There were some strong contenders for the prize: an electric blue hoochie shirred dress that was also worn by the 65 year-old bride, a mermaid gown with blue streamers, a dress from a JLo-PDiddy theme wedding, a Gone with the Wind knockoff, and one garment held together with safety pins so it wouldn’t fall off (she wore it the same way at the wedding.) But the judges took NO time in agreeing on a winner: a yellow gown with a bright floral bodice, pouffy flounces and a giant red flower at the waist. Brooke, the dress’s owner, admitted that she had not personally worn it as a bridesmaid dress, but bought it at a thrift shop years ago. Nevertheless, the dress was an inspiration to all.

Chris March was as droll as a judge as he had been as a contestant, mocking one dress as “where lace goes to die” and another as “bicoastal and bipolar.” Before the show, he talked about how he enjoyed the opportunity to be a judge and “step into Michael and Nina’s shoes.” His prescription for bad bridesmaid dresses: “matchy-matchy outfits." ugly prints, and themes. He admitted to me that he was once a bridesmaid, “coming as a John Waters character” at a friend’s wedding.

Since the Project Runway finale, he’s had many offers, including a pilot for a TV show on fashion and many invitations to participate in fashion events. “But unless you’re rich, you can’t afford the assistance you need to do the planning and then to deliver on all these opportunities.” But, you can be sure we’ll be seeing more of Chris, and not just in drag!
