Interview with Tim Gunn - continued
BPR: How many home visits did you make this season?
TG: Four.
BPR: After seeing their collections yesterday, could you tell that the designers took your advice?
TG: Well, I will say that at one visit, there was nothing to see. Nothing was done!
BPR: Besides Project Runway, will you be attending any other shows?
TG: No.
BPR: Did you film a season 9 Reunion?
TG: There was a cocktail party.
BPR: We feel badly for the four designers eliminated in the first episode. Will they be allowed to audition again?
TG: Yes!
BPR: Did your apartment survive Tropical Storm Irene?
TG: I had tons of damage! Gallons of water leaking through the roof. I was up all night. Every pot, pan, towel and sheet was utilized. Now, though, everything is repaired and I am tight as a drum.
BPR: When can we expect your new book?
TG: Spring 2012 at the latest.
BPR: Tim do you have a stylist on the set. We are noting a daring use of color and more patterns in your wardrobe!
TG: I owe it all to Rita Ryack, my costumer on "The Smurfs Movie." She transformed me.
BPR: Have you agreed with the judges' decisions this season?
TG: Not always.
BPR: Who is your favorite guest judge this season?
TG: L'Wren Scott. She was supportive of the designers and asked astute questions. She was fantastic. She watched the previous episodes and really did her homework. During the breaks in filming while the other judges went outside to cackle and eat Cheetos she actually went over to the designers to meet them and to speak with them personally.
BPR: Where are you headed tonight?
TG: To Washington DC. First I have a Teen Design Fair and then The National Design Awards.
BPR: What has been the most fun for you in 2011?
TG: I have had a great year, it's hard to choose. I'll say covering the Royal Wedding, The Smurfs Movie and The Oscars Red Carpet.
There is a dance number in the movie that was cut. It was designed to run with the closing credits. I am hoping that it will be included in the DVD.
BPR: Tim, did you dance?
TG: Yes! It was completely choreographed.
BPR: Will you be covering the red carpet for the Oscars again?
TG: I have a meeting scheduled with the producers. We will see.
BPR: You are now credited as a producer on Project Runway. How is this different from the previous seasons?
TG: To be honest, it is no different. I should have been credited a long time ago.
BPR: Any plans for a vacation?
TG: No.
BPR: Is there anywhere that you would like to go?
TG: Before I die, I would like to go to Angor Wat in Cambodia!
BPR: Who would you like to see as a guest judge on Project Runway?
TG: Cate Blanchett.
BPR: Are the designers paid?
TG: No.
BPR: Are the models paid?
TG: I honestly don't know.
BPR: How long did the judges deliberate after the finale?
TG: Oh. My. God. It was hours. There were positive and negative things to discuss about each designer.
BPR: Did your favorite designer win?
TG: No.
BPR: Who was your least favorite designer this season?
TG: Bert.
BPR: Who designed the outfit that Heidi was wearing at the finale?
TG: Michael Kors designed both Heidi's and Nina's.
BPR: Are there any surprises or "big moments" yet to come in season 9?
TG: I love this season! The challenges are very engaging and lots of fun. The next episode is great!
We had just a couple of additional questions for Tim, which he graciously agreed to answer on camera. Thank you Tim!
