BPR: This is Laura Kluvo from Blogging Project Runway and I'm on the phone with season 11 designer, Emily Pollard. Hi Emily.
EP: Hi, How are you doing?
BPR: Did you watch the episode last night?
EP: Yes, I did.
BPR: If you could go back, is there anything that you would do differently?
EP: Definitely, I mean, I don't even know how to start with that. First, I would have chosen to do something less complicated. Maybe stick with one piece. There is nothing I can do about it now of course, but if I had been able to stay on, I would have considered the time constraint much more carefully.
BPR: At the beginning of the show when Heidi was calling out the two teams, how do you think they determined who would go to which team?
EP: I don't know. It really didn't make a whole lot of sense...
BPR: Do you think that the teams were equal?
EP: As far as experience and training went, I think they were pretty equal.
BPR: Did you agree with the judges on the winning garment?
EP: Personally I would have liked to have seen Patricia win.
BPR: Were you disappointed to learn that Michael Kors would not be on the panel?
EP: Compared to the bomb they dropped when they announced that we would be on teams, switching up the judges was the last of my concerns.
I mean it would have been great. Michael Kors always has the wittiest things to say. I was a little disappointed, but Zac Posen is a great designer and it is always good to get feedback from an established designer.
BPR: How long did you have to create your garment?
EP: After all of the other things we had to do, the interviews, and the group critique took forever...I would say about five and a half hours.
BPR: How long does it typically take you to create a garment at home?
EP: A long time. Also, I am a night owl. My best hours are between 10:00 PM and 3:00 AM. That is when the magic happens for me. I need music... I mean I can create a look in a few days, but that is a few days without eating, without sleeping.
BPR: You went to SCAD, do you know April Johnston?
EP: Yes. And Julie Tierney and Mitchell Hall.
BPR: Did they offer you any advice?
EP: No. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to let anyone know that I was cast, so I was not able to ask for any advice. It was killing me. I wish I could have. We filmed over the summer, so it has been six months that we had to keep that secret.
BPR: Have you remained in touch with the season 11 designers?
EP: Yeah, I mean it's been in dark hallways and Morse Code and everything, because no one was supposed to know that we were on the show together, but yes, it's been fun having these new friends. Having the support system.
Also, even though I didn't really get along with Cindy at first, she has become a good friend. She is so talented, and so generous. She knows so much about construction and I really appreciate her. I will never judge again. She was a lifesaver.
BPR: Is this the first time you have tried out for the show?
EP: Yes.
BPR: What are you working on now?
EP: Well, I am still working my day job as a graphic designer but I am slowly and surely putting together a new collection. It is based on cubism and super-magnified sugar crystals and sugar molecules.
Hopefully that will be wrapped up soon, and I will create a look book.
BPR: Emily, we are almost out of time, is there anything else you would like to say to your fans?
EP: Yes. I would like to say thank you very much. I am always working, please keep an eye open and keep watching.
BPR: Thank you Emily.
EP: Thank you!
