BPR Interview with Mitchell Perry

BPR:   This is Laura Kluvo from Blogging Project Runway and I'm on the phone with season 13 designer, Mitchell Perry.  Hi Mitchell!

MP:  Hi Laura.

BPR:  Or would you prefer, THE Mitchell Perry?

MP:  Well MitchellPerry.com was taken so I went with TheMitchellPerry.com.   People call me Michell, not THEMitchell, or you can call me Mitch.

BPR:  What did you do to prepare for the competition?

MP: I prepared myself mentally.

BPR:  Which was your favorite challenge?

MP:  The Unconventional Challenge for sure.  I had a blast with that one.

BPR;  Many of our readers thought your team should have won that one.

MP:  I think so too!  Yes, I was struggling a little in the first challenge and our team didn't really have a strong concept to begin with and then it really came together.

BPR:  Have you watched the previous seasons of the show?

MP:  Yes, I watched every season.

BPR;  So you were not surprised that there was a red-carpet challenge...

MP:  Not at all.

BPR:  If you could go back, is there anything that you would do differently?

MP: Yes, I would have chosen a different fabric - something with a little give, like some of the other designers used.  Some stretch and maybe I could have left the edges raw, like some of the others.  I mean I am here now, so obviously I should have done some things differently.  I know I made bad decisions and it just didn't work.

BPR:  Did you watch the episode last night?

MP:  Yes.  and again this morning.

BPR:  Is there anything that happened during the challenge that we didn't see and you which we had?

MP:  Yes. Absolutely.  There is a point where I say that Sandhya is selfish and stingy with the money that she got from Kini.  He had promised half of the money to me.  I was going to buy new scissors.  But she did not give me the money.  So that's why I said the comment about Sandhya.  So I had a reason for saying that, but they didn't show it.

BPR:  Our readers find Sandhya very polarizing.  How do you like her?

MP:  To be honest I think she is awesome,  She is a very sweet girl.  I really like her.

BPR:  You are very kind....Your model, Bella, is lovely.  Have you remained in touch?

MP:  I LOVE Bella!  She has an amazing spirit.  She was such a breath of fresh air every time she came into the workroom.  She is amazing.  We are in touch.  I feel terrible that I lost the challenge and she is out.

BPR:  During the "Anonymous Runway Show" we see reaction shots from the designers.  Do the judges see this too?  Are the judges present for all of the runway filming?

MP: Not every single time.  The runway is repeated many times and the editing is sort of a montage of all of the passes.

BPR:  Did you agree with judges' choice for the winning garment?
MP:   Sean really came back strong.  His look from the previous week was in the bottom, and he really proved himself this week.  Sean's look was a simple shift dress with fringe that honestly anyone in the workroom could have done, but he did it.  It was great.  I personally thought that Kini should have won.  His look was way more elegant, but Sean's was great.

BPR:  What are you working on now?

MP:  Of course I am designing.  I'm always working.  I have started a non-profit organization called hobosheik.  I grew up very poor and I did not have very many positive influences in my life.  I want to be a good influence to others.  I am teaching kids how to sew and how to upcycle clothes.  Then we are donating the clothing to the homeless.  I want kids to not only develop some skills but also to get an understanding of the homeless situation and hopefully never find themselves there.

BPR:  We are almost out of time, is there anything else you would like to say to your fans?

MP:  Seriously, this has been so insanely amazing.  Thank you for believing in me and putting out all of the positive remarks and energy.  Thank you everyone!
