Project Runway in Times Square cont.

The press wasn't supposed to arrive until 7 p.m. to check in, so we had dinner and ventured over around 6:30 p.m. No one really knew what was going on, but people who had cameras and note pads seemed to congregate in the same area. We waited (forever) for someone to tell us what we were supposed to do, but finally someone came around, checked our names off on their list and handed out press wristbands. Then we waited - again! During this time, we were able to see Tim Gunn arrive as well as the long line of models parading across Broadway in white bath robes (Tim didn't have one, he was wearing a suit!) 


 When we finally were asked to enter, we were literally showed into a small, fenced in area. Although we were able to get good shots of the judges, there was nowhere to move and people were not terribly polite.


 After the judges posed for pictures, we were moved (again - second of three times.) This served no purpose as nothing really happened between this time and the time we were moved AGAIN! We ended up having "OK" standing spots for the show. 


 The new crop of designers came out and were invited to have a champagne toast with the judges. Heidi seemed to continually mention the "10th season" - maybe this was the reason for the toast. The designers came back our later and sat in their normal configuration. 


 Heidi announces the challenge. The challenge was to make one look at home, and a second, cohesive look upon arrival at Parsons. They were given 1 day and $100 to complete the challenge (it wasn't made clear whether the $100 covered both looks or not.) 


 The runway show began. I have to say, some looks were better than others, but there was never a question of cohesion. I could tell which outfit went with which outfit, even if they were presented out of order. However, they were presented in order and the real challenge was for the crowd to guess which designer did what - without ever seeing the season before! I was trying to see if they were gesturing to each other, but they were pretty subdued - and nervous! For me, NOT knowing the designers actually made it more exciting and gave the upcoming premiere a heightened sense of anticipation! I have my favorites but I'll let you decide! The event was fun and the bright lights of Times Square definitely added to the excitement - for the fans as well as the designers! 


Notes: After the runway show (which was presented twice so that Lifetime could use the better take), guest judge Patricia Field whispered to the designers, "Thank you." Heidi mentioned in the judges' private tent, "There are a lot of good ones!" The crowd was happy to see Lauren Graham on the judges panel and kept calling her by the name of her "Gilmore Girls" character! She was very nice and waved whenever they did it! Personally, my favorite look was what Nina Garcia was wearing! I yelled out, "Who are you wearing?" but she didn't hear me! (Editor's note: It was Dolce & Gabbana) Trish
