The separates included boxy tops paired with slim pants, long trousers or skirts with an interesting mix of fabrics. My favorite separate look was a slouchy top with a sleeve detail and a plaid skirt, which could be dressed up or down. I thought the casual boot was an unexpected yet smart pairing.
Another smart look was the tunic and trouser with the inset stripe detail. These look great together and could also be paired with basics. For the upcoming cool weather, the tunic could be paired with a legging and the trouser with a turtleneck.
I really loved the pieces
made from black and white prints. There
was a fabulous tent dress with trim going down the front. It seemed just so easy to wear. The same could be said for the chic
jumpsuit. These pieces need just a
blazer for day and some blingy jewelry for evening.
Sam knows what he is doing
with prints! From what I overheard, this
blue dress was the favorite of the night.
One might think that diagonal, vertical and horizontal stripes would be
too much for one dress, but Sam masterfully handled them all.
While Sam says he is not out
to reinvent the wheel, he describes his clothing as deconstructed American
classics and considers Amelia Earhart and Katharine Hepburn as his fashion
icons. (I think it’s fabulous that such
a young designer references these women!)
Sam’s clothes are energetic and vibrant – yet wearable. This is something we all want – clothes that we
can wear but have that extra energy that makes them stand out from the rest.
So what more can we expect
from Sam? He will be a part of The Liberty
Hotel’s Fashionably Late series this coming spring and next fall. Sam will also show his latest collection at
Denver Fashion Weekend, which runs November 13-16, 2014. Since he hails from Denver, we also expect to
see a show from Mondo Guerra, winner of the first season of Project Runway All-Stars and Sam’s
mentor from Under the Gunn.
